Town Market

Wokingham Market brings a real buzz to the town centre, with a wonderful mix of traders from across the region. Market days are every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, between 9am and 3pm.

Our market has a long and proud history, dating back over 800 years to the granting of the original Market Charter in 1219 by King Henry III. The story began on 2nd January 1219 when the Bishop of Salisbury gave one palfrey (a horse) for a Tuesday market in Wokingham, to Henry III until he came of age (he was only 13 at the time) This was formalised in 1227 with the Bishop of Salisbury (Richard Poore) being granted a Charter by Henry III, allowing him to hold a weekly market in Wokingham, which provided an income to fund the building of the present Salisbury Cathedral.

Our markets feature street food and an array of stalls which include the highest quality fresh food, plants, local produce, crafts, luxury items and quirky keepsakes. The focus is on high quality product, competitively priced. We are very proud of our traders, the majority of whom are small (and often young) enterprises who literally operate their business from their market stall. You’ll find they are incredibly enthusiastic about their products, the market and Wokingham.

Not only does our market provide a great shopping opportunity, but it also acts as a community hub and is utilised by a wide range of local organisations wishing to promote their services and engage with the community.
