As of April 4th 2020 new legislation has been passed by Parliament to allow Town & Parish Councils flexibility in holding meetings. The Local Authorities and Police and Crime Panels (Coronavirus) (Flexibility of Local Authority and Police and Crime Panel Meetings) (England and Wales) Regulations 2020 , allows for meetings to be held virtually.
In using these new regulations Councils are required as far as possible to ensure:
a) members are able to hear, and where practicable see, and be so heard and, where practicable, be seen by, the other members in attendance,b) to hear, and where practicable see, and be so heard and, where practicable, be seen by, any members of the public entitled to attend the meeting in order to exercise a right to speak at the meeting, and
c) to be so heard and, where practicable, be seen by any other members of the public attending the meeting.Wokingham Town Council intends to make use of these flexibilities to continue to hold its meetings. Members of the public are requested to contact the relevant officer (see link above) should they wish to join any meeting and remote access will be arranged.
