Maintenance works are underway on the lower sections of the Town Hall
exterior brickwork which in many areas has lost its jointing material exposing the building to water ingress and damage to the facing bricks.

This has been caused by exposure to weather/pollution and material age deterioration.

To maintain the building’s integrity and the Councils commitment to preserving the Town Hall this material (pointing) needs to be reinstated, along with some replacement of damaged bricks.

In line with the Councils Strategic Plan by maintaining and preserving the historic Victorian Town Hall we are able to provide sustainability for future generations and present users alike, give inclusivity to all who are able to use the facilities within, serve our residents and local community from the civic offices, maintain the distinctive appearance of this iconic town center building.

The contractor commissioned for the works are JG Restorations, Heritage restoration specialists. The works will take approximately two weeks to complete and every effort has been made to follow the current Covid-19 government guidelines to protect both workers and public alike.

The re-pointing works to the lower sections of the Town Hall facing brickwork commenced last week and the first stage of raking out the old material is progressing well.
