War Memorial

Wokingham Town Hall hosts one of a number of War Memorials around the Town. Situated within the Town Hall it can be viewed during the week before Remembrance and by appointment year round.  If you would like to visit the memorial, please visit the Information Centre where a member of staff will be happy to arrange a viewing.

The memorial was unveiled on 10th February 1924 and is constructed of English Oak styled to compliment the architecture of the Town Hall.

History has lost the exact criteria for which names appear on this memorial with a number of conflicting reports and confusion in the post First World War period. A number of the names on this memorial also feature on local church memorials. Some have been added at a later date at the behest of their family. Some chose not to have their family member on a public memorial.

The criteria for adding seems to have remained the same since the Second World War. Individuals were required to live in Wokingham, therefore having a residential address in the town boundary at the time of their death. Wokingham Town Council would always consider additional names on the Town Hall War Memorial within the same criteria.
